Functional Fitness Movement Standards

June 16th, 2010 Mark 2 comments

Something new in Adventure Racing? Not really, in ESAR we have always had special tasks, and this is just another challenge. This video is to help you be more prepared when you hit the functional fitness checkpoint. You have to complete 45 burpees as a team in order to punch into the control and to move on in the race. Post any questions to thoughts to comments and I will do my best to answer then.

thanks

ESAR – Behind the Scenes 2009 Race Start

May 22nd, 2010 Mark No comments

A video that I just found and I thought was gone, but it has resurfaced!  The ESAR 2009 race at C.F.B. Borden out of Camp Blackdown was a special opportunity to cover terrain that most never get to see or traverse. Here in this video we follow the top team with Bob Miller, Dave Coroner, John Blackwell (Supplier Pipeline SPI / Shed Coffee Bar  / AR studs) .  You also see team Any Style who has won the 911 mens category for the last 8 years.  I feel the beauty in this video is not only the interesting angle and perspective at which it was shot (out the back of an SUV ) but the conversations by the top teams, and the chatter on the radio as the race staff puts on a seamless race for the racers. A must see if you think that race organization is in your future. Grab a coffee as this video is cut down to 10 minutes and is the first portion of a 45 minute ride to CP 1.

For the full version and another perspective you can see the helmet cam version from the guys at RaceDayRush.com here. Check it out

Adventure Racing Bike Tow System

I wouldn’t build one of these if I were you. This is dangerous stuff. Riding your bike at high speed while attached to other bikes at high speed is a really dumb idea. We don’t condone such behaviour and we don’t recommend you do it. This is a short unedited documentary on how people can hurt themselves by making and using adventure racing bike tows.

Wilderness Traverse 24 hour race New!

February 19th, 2010 Mark No comments

logo

After lamenting the loss of classic, wilderness-based, 24hr adventure races from the Ontario multisport calendar Bob Miller has decided to re-introduce this exciting format of racing. The inaugural Wilderness Traverse will be a ‘back-to-basics’ adventure race where coed and open teams of 3 or 4 will mountain bike, paddle, and trek across a remote region of the Haliburton Highlands. Route choices throughout all disciplines will be abundant, making navigation strategy a key element of a team’s ability to go the distance. The racecourse itself is roughly 130 km in distance and teams will have up to 30 hours to complete it. The event is designed to attract all-levels of adventure enthusiasts who want to push their physical and mental limits in an awe-inspiring backcountry setting. Physical fitness will be an asset but mental fortitude and a team-first attitude will be a deciding factor in who achieves their goals.

The event website can be found at the following link: www.wildernesstraverse.com
